Exploration Continued Expanded, or ExCE, is a mod aimed at deepening the experience of exploration. It is composed of, at present, three distinct components, each focusing on a particular aspect of exploring new lands. For a general overview, please see here. For installation, see here.

Great Andean Road

Units ignore terrain costs when moving into any tile with Hills. Improvements cost half maintenance, and no maintenance if in hills. Units may move and settle on Mountains and, when settling on Mountains, provide a free Mint in the city.

Vicegentry Exploration
  • Internal Trade Routes yield 50% more Production Production and Food Food.
  • +2 Happy Happiness from each Harbor/Colony Colony.
Finisher Exploration
  • May see Hidden Antiquity Sites.
  • May purchase Great Airships, Great Adventurers, Great Explorers, and Great Scouts with FaithIcon Faith.

Attrition

Certain kinds of terrain may inflict attrition damage upon units when outside friendly territory.

Attrition Terrain Effects
Desert Desert 20% chance per turn to take 10 damage. Cannot heal.
Disease Marsh 2 damage per turn. Cannot heal. 
Fallout Fallout 15 damage per turn.
Jungle Jungle 5 damage per turn. Cannot heal. Cannot cross until Optics[2]. May lose or gain movement when a turn begins.
Scurvy Ocean 50% chance per turn to take 15 damage. 
Snow Snow 20% chance per turn to take 20 damage. Cannot heal.
Wind Ocean May lose or gain movement when a turn begins.

Units trained in cities adjacent to Snow, Jungle, or Desert will be immune to the respective attrition. This also applies to starting units. Recon units may be upgraded with immunities to these terrains.

At Ecology, all units become immune to Desert and Snow attrition. At Steam Power, all units become immune to Scurvy. At Penicillin, all units gain Disease immunity. At Satellites, all units gain Jungle immunity. 

Certain civilizations receive various immunities:

  • The Aztecs' Jaguar starts with Jungle Immunity
  • Morocco's Berber Cavalry starts with Desert Immunity
  • Denmark's Norwegian Ski Infantry starts with Snow Immunity
  • Sweden's Carolean starts with Snow Immunity
  • Portugal's Nau starts with Scurvy Immunity
  • All Polynesian units start with Scurvy Immunity
  • Spain's Conquistador starts with Full Immunity

  • A Great Admiral appears.
  • +2 Moves Movement and immunity to attrition from Ocean Tiles for all Great Admirals.
  • Great Admirals are earned 50% faster.

Tribes

Tribes Tribes are communities that may exist within another civilization. Having a Tribes Tribe within your territory allows you to build a National Consulate, granting that city unique bonuses. However, you are unable to improve the Tiles within a Tribes Tribe's borders unless you first annex them with a Great Recon Unit.
